WADLEY | Mexico City Band Blending Electronic & Indie Rock
Wadley is an electronic indie rock band from Mexico City combining deep house, minimal techno, and live instrumentation. Led by acclaimed producer Bubu (Diego Martínez), known for his work on Kompakt Records and Mayan Warrior at Burning Man, Wadley creates emotionally charged music inspired by poetry, family legacy, and the mystical landscapes of San Luis Potosí.
Featuring Thomass Jackson, Billy Mendrix, and Andy Kenguan, the band transforms the late Dr. Lorenzo Martínez's writings into sonic experiences that bridge electronic music and organic instrumentation.
The Story Behind Wadley
Wadley is more than a band—it's a tribute, a journey, and a cosmic connection born in Mexico City.
After two decades producing electronic music for legendary labels like Kompakt, Hippie Dance, and his own ILS Records (Instituto Latinoamericano de Sensibilidad), Mexico City DJ and producer Diego Martínez (Bubu) embarked on his most personal project: Wadley.
The Name
The band is named after Estación Wadley, a small desert town of 541 inhabitants in San Luis Potosí, Mexico—the birthplace of Bubu's grandfather. This remote location sits at the gateway to the Wirikuta desert, considered by the Wixárika (Huichol) people as the center of the universe, a sacred space for cosmic connection and stargazing.
The Music
Wadley's sound blends electronic production with live instrumentation, drawing influence from The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Sigur Rós, minimal techno, and 80s nostalgia. The result is atmospheric, introspective music that moves between deep house grooves and indie rock sensibilities.
The Mission
At the heart of Wadley lies the poetry and reflections of Bubu's late father, Dr. Lorenzo Martínez, a Mexican scientist who wrote prolifically while battling cancer. Rather than focusing on pain, his words celebrated life, consciousness, and connection—themes that pulse through every Wadley composition.
Collaborating with talented musicians Thomass Jackson (Argentina), Billy Mendrix (Mexico), and Andy Kenguan (Colombia), Bubu transforms these writings into musical landscapes that honor his father's memory while exploring universal themes of life, death, and transcendence.
Live Experience
Wadley performs live throughout Mexico City and beyond, offering both electronic sets and unplugged acoustic performances. Their shows blend live instrumentation, electronic production, and visual storytelling, creating immersive experiences that connect audiences to something larger.
